Franko’s Map of Kauai, The Garden Isle

Franko's Map of Kaua'i, The Garden Isle

Side 1 shows Franko’s Map of Kauai  with the whole island in stunning shades of green rising up from it’s nearly

circular shoreline to Wai’ale’ale, the rainiest spot on earth at the islands center.  Every steep canyon of the Na Pali Coast

can be seen, as can the islands huge canyons and eight major rivers that descend down from Wai’ale’ale.

Waimea Canyon forms a deep gash in the landscape, as can be clearly seen on this map.  The intricacies of the coast can be

traced, from Hanalei Bay and Kilauea Point on the North; to Kapa’a and Lihue on the East; to Koloa, Po’ipu and

Port Allen on the South; and to the remote and steep Na Pali Coast on the West.  The ocean depths are traced

in descending hues of blue, resembling the actual beauty that surrounds Kauai.  Dozens of Hawaiian reef creatures,

such as the spotted eagle ray, lemon butterflyfish, green sea turtle, and the Humuhumu Nukunuku Apua’a, or

reef triggerfish are colorfully depicted.  Dive and snorkeling sites around the island are located and described.

They include Ke’e Beach, Tunnels Reef, Poipu Beach Park, Koloa Landing, General Store, Mana Crack and

many others.  Kauai’s best kayaking spots are also listed.  They include the Hanalei River, Anini Barrier Reef,

Wailua River, Hanepepe River, Na Pali Coast amongst others.  The islands main recreations areas, water falls,

trails, camping, and all of it’s major roads and highways to tell you how to get there are shown.

Side 2 shows Franko’s Map of Kauai with details of the North, East and South Shores and the Islands of Ni’ihau

and Lehua.  The Franko’s Map of Kauai first zooms-out for a greater view of Kauai, and also includes the island of

Ni’ihau, and it’s small neighboring island of Lehua.  Zoom-in insets show Lehua in detail to reveal it’s many

undersea dive attractions, such as Vertical Awareness, Lehua Slope, Ni’ihau Arches and the Key Hole dive sites.

The North Shore ranges from Ha’ena and Ke’e Beach, which is the beginning of the grueling Kalalau Foot Trail,

and spreads over to Hanalei, Princeville, Kilauea and the Guava Kai Plantation, where one can go in for a taste of

fabulous guava juice.  Dive sites shown include Ke’e Beach, Cannon’s Reef, Tunnels Reef, and Anini Beach.

The East Shore details the roads and sites from Kapa’a to Lihue and on to Nawiliwili Harbor, where cruise ships

berth.  Lihue Airport can be seen too.  Major hotels and shopping centers are located on the map, as are popular

beaches and a couple of snorkeling spots.  The South Shore detail includes Koloa, Poipu, Lawai, Ele’ele, Hanepepe

and Port Allen.  Port Allen is where boat tours to the Na Pali Coast disembark.  Resort locations and points of interest,

such as Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Garden are listed.  The South Shore also has a listing of 15

scuba diving and snorkeling spots, with a descriptions from Franko’s personal experiences in exploring there

(I call this map research work).  They include Brennecke’s Ledge, Nukumoi Point, Po’ipu Beach, Icebox,

Sheraton Caverns (The top boat dive spot around Kaua’i), Koloa Landing (the best shore dive on the South Shore),

Prince Kuhio Park (the best turtle watching spot for snorkelers), Beach House Arch, Beach House

(a.k.a. Lawai Beach, where Snuba tours are offered), Fast Lanes, Turtle Bluffs, General Store, Camp One

and Salt Pond. In depth topographical map of Hawaii with detailed listing of beaches dive sites and the tropical fish

in the area. Printed on waterproof tear-resistant paper. Measures 21 x 14 open 7 x 4.25 folded.
